When I first heard of Shape Your Future, I thought that it was a great opportunity to share some of the results of my master thesis and I joined the contest with an article titled « Les énergies renouvelables en Europe: la question du sens ».

Eventually, SYF turned out to be much more than a contest for me. I had the chance to be awarded the third prize and to obtain a first interview. This led me to join Sia Partners at the end of my studies!

"SYF turned out to be much more than a contest for me. (…) It led me to join Sia Partners at the end of my studies!"

I strongly recommend to participate to SYF and, most of all, to leverage the coaching session by Sia Partners’ consultants. Along with the meeting of top executives from the energy sector during the awarding ceremony, it was the most value-adding part of the contest.

About two years ago, I remember I stumbled upon a flyer promoting the Shape Your Future contest, while walking to class with some friends of mine. The flyer really caught my attention; I was very intrigued and decided to participate in the contest. A few days later I officially registered to SYF.

The contest lasted over a few weeks. The participants were asked to write an article about a hot topic of the energy sector. At the time, Belgium was facing serious threats of black-outs and the students were asked to come with smart ideas to ensure the security of electricity supply. I wrote about how electric vehicles could be used as demand response mechanisms.

"I can say that it was a very enriching experience: I learned a lot about the energy sector"

During the SYF finals, we even had the chance to meet great personalities of the power sector.

I truly recommend taking part to the adventure! I ended up winning the 3rd price and I even started to work as a Energy consultant at Sia Partners the following year.

I decided to participate to the contest because I had a keen interest in the challenges related to the energy sector. Moreover,  I saw the contest as an excellent opportunity to broaden my vision and to meet inspiring people from leading companies in the energy sector.

"Be as innovative as possible in order to make your article stand out of the crowd"

My article treated the following subject: “Techno-economic feasibility of renewable energy”. As a recommendation for the students of future editions I would say: “Try to leave the beaten path, be as innovative as possible in order to make your article stand out of the crowd.

When I saw the flyer about Shape Your Future, I decide to participate because the topic is very actual and it’s always interesting to learn more about new technologies and developments in the energy industry. The title of my article was “Hernieuwbare energie, toch nog niet voor morgen?”

"I was able to meet many important and interesting professionals from the energy industry"

Especially the coaching session and the closing ceremony were unique opportunities. During the coaching session you have the chance to discuss your ideas with a consultant from Sia Partners with a lot of expertise in the energy sector. Finally during the closing ceremony I was able to meet many important and interesting professionals from the energy industry. I was also able to talk with some consultants of Sia Partners which in the end led to an internship!
